King Khalid University and Human Rights Authority at Asir Region Hold a Symposium Highlighting the Kingdom’s Efforts in Combating Human Trafficking

Under the patronage of His Excellency King Khalid University President Prof. Falleh bin Rajjah Al Solami, King Khalid University in cooperation with the Human Rights Authority in Asir held a symposium highlighting the kingdom's efforts in combating human trafficking on Sunday the 30th of July 2023 at the university Conference and Exhibition Centre at Al Fraa’a campus.

The symposium, which was held in conjunction with the World Day Against Trafficking Persons, reviewed the kingdom's efforts in combating this crime. The symposium session was moderated by His Excellency’s adviser Dr. Abduallah Al Kassi, where four papers were presented and discussed on the issue by experts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

On his part, the Director General of Human Resources at King Khalid University, Mr. Muhammad bin Shaya Al-Nahari, reviewed the protection of human resources in the work environment in the Kingdom, stressing that  incitement to violate the labor system or sheltering violators of the residency system, is a form of human trafficking  He pointed that the crime of human trafficking is multifaceted, and it overlaps with some similar issues, such as labor differences. Al-Nahari also reviewed King Khalid University's procedures  in providing a safe work environment and combating everything that could be classified as human trafficking.

On the sidelines of the symposium, a number of papers published by faculty members at the university were presented, most prominent of which was a study by Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sharia and Fundamentals of Religion, Dr. Muhammad bin Saeed Al Zafran, which summarized the kingdom's efforts in combating human trafficking crimes, especially in the field of investigations and trials. The paper highlighted the Kingdom's efforts in implementing the national referral mechanism, providing training on identification and referral procedures, and providing victims with access to services.
