The department was established in 1418 AH as part of the plan for Girls' Colleges under the name of the Arabic Language and Social Sciences Department, The department later joined King Khalid University.

- Passing required entrance exams.

- Acceptance criteria: 30% from high school, 30% from the General Aptitude Test, and 40% from the Academic Achievement Test
