The growing importance of computer development and modern technology and the need for specialists in this area after the penetration of computers in all aspects of life, In this sense it is the reality of the anticipated need for competencies in the field of computers. King Khalid University sought to keep pace with this increase by establishing the Department of Computer Science in 1430 AH under the auspices of the College of Arts and Sciences, then it was annexed to the Applied College in Khamis Mushait in 1444 AH, which aims to prepare qualified scientific cadres in the field of computer science.

The Computer Science department offers students the necessary knowledge to enhance their organizational skills, teamwork abilities, and academic thinking skills across three domains (cognitive, practical research).
The department ensures that all decisions strike a balance between theory and practice, enabling students to tackle problems, innovate, and contribute effectively to sustainable development and community engagement. Graduates currently occupy critical roles in development, software engineering, and web design.
The department bears a commitment to behavioral quality rather than mere slogans, fostering organizational quality within its systems, thriving in academic and administrative procedures, and ultimately yielding fruitful outcomes in the department's graduates and scientific research.
