Study Conducted on Women Driving in Asir

Recently the university conducted a study on the impact of women driving in the Asir region. The study focused on the impact of licensing women to drive on the region. In addition, the study explored the current state of roads and related infrastructures like parking lots, interchanges, and roundabouts.

The study team involved a variety of governmental stakeholders including:

  • The Asir Region Council;
  • The General Directorate of Traffic in Asir;
  • The Ministry of Transportation;
  • The Asir Regional Secretariat;
  • The University Agency for Projects;
  • The Institute for Research and Advisory Studies;
  • The Faculty of Engineering.

One inherent assumption of licensing women to drive is that there will be a significant increase in the amount of vehicular traffic throughout the region. The study was designed to provide an estimate of increased traffic flows and the resulting effects on related infrastructure. Of course, this information will be used for planning purposes for new and improved projects.

The primary methodology for the study was via empirical data collection through electronic resources. The pilot study was conducted in Abha, the capital of the region. The research was conducted under the supervision of Research and Advisory Studies Center Dean, Dr. Abdul Latef Ibrahim Al-Hudaithy. "We studied the potential impact of increased vehicle usage using the Sidra Intersection software package. The digital simulation models gleaned from the study indicate a net demand increase in roadway and related infrastructure usage of approximately 40%," said Dean Al-Hudaithy.

Based on the results of the study, the researchers and stakeholders compiled numerous recommendations designed to alleviate potential difficulties based on increased traffic to wit:

A. Asir Region Secretariat

  • Establishing a transportation engineering administration responsible for strategic planning and evaluation;
  • Establishing a female traffic safety committee;
  • Improving the efficiency of traffic courts;
  • Investing in the expansion of parking lots.

B. Asir Transport Unit

The Asir Transport Unit recommended the creation of a new risk and emergency management division with the following responsibilities:

  • Preparing general evacuation plans for the road network;
  • Establishing a department to measure behavioral trends that lead to accidents;
  • Expanding the installation of surveillance cameras to assure compliance and measure road usage in Asir.

C. Administrative Recommendations

  • Re-evaluating standards and testing procedures for driver certification;
  • Training female leadership in police departments to take on traffic and safety responsibilities;
  • Establishing a transportation engineering department in the Faculty of Engineering to improve transport planning throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

D. Ministry of Transportation

  • Preparing environmental impact statements on infrastructure plans;
  • Establishing a public website to collect feedback from residents;
  • Building a regional urban transportation information system;
  • Collaborating with the relevant governmental authorities on surface transportation planning and improvement.

The Governor of Asir, HRH Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz, thanked the university and its faculty researchers for their hard work and dedication in conducting this study and proffering thoughtful recommendations for improving transportation in the region.

  The College of Science and Arts in Khamis Mushayt (King Khalid University) represented by the College's Development and Quality Unit organized a training program entitled (Office 365) and that was on Monday 3/2/1442 AH at 7:00 pm via the Zoom platform. The training program was done by Dr. Amaal Alsayed Muhammad Al-Amin at the College of Science and Arts in Khamis Mushait. A group of female employees from the College of Science and Arts in Khamis Mushait and other colleges attended the program. The program included presentations about Office 365 package offered by King Khalid University and how to deal with all the programs it bears. The program included interventions, questions and discussions of the honorable attendees led by Dr. Rehab Babiker, The Vice Dean of the Development and Quality Unit. This program came under the umbrella of The global quality day as a contribution from the college to supporti informational concepts and utilize technology in E- learning.  
On Wednesday, 4/17/1442 AH, the College of Science and Arts in Khamis Mushait, represented by the Community Service Unit as a part of the community partnership with the Social Protection Unit in Abha has presented a lecture entitled Ambition, under the supervision and organization of Dr. Rehab Babiker, The Head of the Community Service Unit at the College. The lecture was presented by Dr. Hoda Abdel Rahman Mahjoub, Assistant Professor at the Department of Islamic Studies, and the lecture included a number of topics, including:  The definition of ambition.  How to achieve the goals that a person aspires to reach. Characteristics of an ambitious person. The difference between ambition and greed  Take advantage of the pitfalls facing a person to move forward and not back down from what they aspire to.   Learn from experiences in life as lessons in human life. The program was accompanied by a presentation that includes pictures that stimulate the achievement of goals..At the end of the lecture, the opportunity for meaningful interventions and discussions was provided, where some of the attendees shared their views.
Source: KKU - Media Center His Excellency, the University President, Prof. Faleh bin Rajaa Allah Al Sulami, sponsored the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Charitable Foundation for Orphans Care (Ekhaa) Asir branch.  Vice President of Business and Knowledge Economy, Prof. Abdullatif bin Ibrahim Al Hedaithy, represented the University in signing the agreement, while Ekhaa Foundation was represented by Prof. Saleh bin Khalif Al Dahmashi, Secretary General of the Charitable Foundation for Orphans Care (Ekhaa), and Consultant of His Excellency the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development.  Al Hedaithy, explained that the agreement includes cooperation in the following areas: organizing academic, educational and entertaining programs and events for orphans, working on easing the procedures of accepting orphans to the university academic programs, in accordance to the Deanship of Admission regulations and conditions.  The agreement also includes supporting orphans psychologically and socially by cooperating with the Guidance and Consultation Center at the University, through supporting talented orphan students, and offering training courses. In addition to offering medical care through the university's dental clinics and medical centers.
Source: KKU - Media Center The Administrative Development Department at King Khalid University, held a number of training courses and programs targeting university members, during the first semester of 1442 AH, a number of training courses were held in coordination with the Institute of Public Administration and the General Court of Audit.  The Dean of Human Resources Deanship Dr. Ali Al Olayani, explained that these training courses and programs are part of the Deanship's efforts to enhance the work performance of university members, to achieve the Deanship's mission of efficient and innovative management and development of human resources, by investing distinguished capabilities, in line with best practices. On his part, the Director of the Administrative Development Department, Prof. Ali bin Saleh Al Dumaih, said that an estimate of 2188 university members benefited from these training courses. These training courses are important to develop the skills and potentials of university employees in areas that include, risk management assessment, professional skills in work procedures, monitoring skills, content analysis in social networks, facility management, leadership skills, achieving excellence in strategies implementation in universities, improving the financial performance during crises, change management, risk-based audit, performance control, governmental accounting, practicing internal auditing in government agencies.
